June 2014
For newsletter, June 2014 We were very excited in the studio, when a well-known Israeli company asked us to make a tapestry with The Rolling Stones logo. The tapestry was intended as a gift to the band, on the occasion of their concert in Tel-Aviv on June 4th, 2014. We designed the tapestry, the design was approved by our client, and here you see the end result — the tapestry itself! I think it’s perfect for the famous rock band – suits them to a T!

Have you seen the huge, soft and colorful “monster”, who – in a sprawling, lazy sort of way – sends its limbs throughout the corridors of the Tel Aviv Museum of Art? It is enormous, wending its way from the building’s top level to the ground floor – some 27 meters -- and truly something special.
The artist, the Portuguese Joana Vasconcelos, titled this figure “Lusitana” and it is part of Joana’s series called “Valkyries” after the female figures from Norse mythology  who affect the outcome of battles and the fate of the warriors.
Hmmm… so it’s a woman???

You know what it’s like these days -- everybody is walking around with an iPad or a laptop, if not both. So do we, when we have meetings with clients and want to show them our portfolio with images of our designer carpets . But in addition, we always bring along our special "oversized" photo album with the large, high-quality printed photos. Old-fashioned? Maybe… But it’s always such a hit; every meeting we end up sitting around this album leafing back and forth, while chatting, discussing details and making decisions about the design of the client’s new carpet. Of course, to develop high-quality, large photos you need a good photography lab, with people who listen and are able to help you with your different wishes . We found the perfect one for our needs – Panda Labs! They develop both analog and digital photos, do prints and scans . Old fashioned ? – I don't think so. Professional ? – And how!

Nowadays, business promotion over the internet is a must, being the most advanced form of advertising – and we use it extensively. Our regular customers, as well as new ones, would expect no less of us. It is essential, however, to follow through with an exclusive ad, preferably full-page, in some of the leading monthly trade magazines. In our case, that would be in the field of home design, architecture, life style, and similar. You have here an example of one of our magazine ads. Just recently the prominent magazine HDL -- www.home-design.co.il -- published a write-up about carpets in Israel, and "Elsebeth Studio" was of course one of the companies featured in it.

From time to time we are contacted by top-notch, world-famous Israeli artists, who want us to "translate" their artwork into the form of carpets. Most naturally, and nearly automatically, they’re looking to turn their paintings into wall hangings. And we go along with their wishes. But just recently, the artist David Gerstein called, and he had a completely different idea of how the "translation" should be done: as area rugs, of course! How great is that?! Everyone knows David Gerstein's creations with their bright, cheerful colors, and I was in fact very excited about the project. Look how fantastic the rug looks, on display in David Gerstein's gallery in Jerusalem:

October 2013
For Elsebeth’s October Newsletter: When I come to a client’s home for the first meeting (in most cases it takes two or three meetings with a client before we decide on the desirable design), I sometimes get inspired by the most unexpected things or funny incidents. I must say that we just delivered two hand-tufted carpets that were inspired by just such events. Can you see the connection between a bookcase and a design for a hand-tufted wool rug? Between a piano and an a-symmetric designed rug? No? Well, initially, neither did I! But with those two items in mind I sat down and designed two outstanding rugs for my client in northern Israel. The result was perfect harmony between the rugs and their environment – the client’s home. Take a look and see for yourself:

Here’s my summer recommendation for a real treat: Take a couple of hours and go visit the Ralli Museum in Caesarea. Aside from anything else, the museum building itself is breathtakingly beautiful, with its clean, white lines. The collections of modern Spanish and Latin-American art are fantastic. And talk about the fascinating Salvador Dali bronze statues you will find there! The visitor is left standing simply speechless! I left the museum full of impressions of colors, figures, structures… and a cascade of ideas stumbling over each other in my mind.... Trusting that the ideas will still be with me later, I naturally found my way down to the harbor café, where I enjoyed the sea view while sipping a cold drink.

Until just recently, we have been producing exclusive, custom-designed carpets only. Serious work indeed! But for some time now I have been walking around wanting to have some fun by designing something more lighthearted, specifically "Fun Kids’ Rugs".
These small rugs are an item you can see, buy and take with you immediately. For us at "Elsebeth Studio" that is something completely new – another way of thinking!

Of course, you will have the option of customizing each of these designs by choosing colors and size, so that it’s a perfect fit for  your child's room. Or you can simply choose one from the collection we’ve put together. Have a look at the first four designs. Believe me – even the craftsmen were smiling while working on them!

August 2012

Here we are again, sharing our latest ideas and innovations with you.
The month of July zoomed quietly by, but not without its own fascinating challenge. The most interesting challenge this month was a wall carpet intended for the board-room of a large insurance company. The company has offices worldwide, which led to the decision to design a carpet with that message in mind: a carpet that would visually communicate the company’s global aspect. The only condition specified by the company owner was “It must be abstract and colorful!”
And lo and behold: just such a carpet is currently hanging up in his office.

The very used phrase " The Sky is the Limit" is an old , corny sentence – I agree! But if I think about how many surprising possibilities we have at " Elsebeth Studio" , when creating one of our custom made designer rugs, it here might be just the right definition Our twenty-three years' experience in designing and producing wool area rugs, give us the ability to accomplish the most difficult assignments. More and more interior designers are using " Elsebeth Studio" for creating the perfect carpet for their clients home, office or business.

Winter is here again, with its short days and cold nights.  Though here in Israel, at this time of  year we  can still enjoy a cup of coffee at an outdoor café, and even watch and listen to opera while having our coffee.   Who could ask for anything more?... This uplifting winter pastime takes place every Saturday in December at the "Tachana"  compound  in Tel-Aviv's picturesque Neve Tzedek quarter.
Our carpets follow the sprawling , happy and exhilarating  tones of opera.  Designs are more playful than ever, and the colors – the colors have been getting more and more dominant, strong and  vibrant.
The 60s and 70s are back, not just in fashion but also in carpet design.  That is, in fact, a big change from the bold, clean and colder lines of the so-called hi-tech style.
Are people getting more romantic?...
Anyway – I, for one, am enjoying the change.  At "Elsebeth Studio" we have never stuck to one design style , but the touch of the '60s really is a completely new trend for us.

Have you ever been to the Bahai Gardens in Haifa? They are gorgeous – peaceful and powerful – and I must say a work of art as well.
When you stand at the bottom or at the top, with the three terraces stretching out in front of you – wow! It just blows your mind.
The design and the colors could well be those of a carpet; a traditional carpet.
These days, when designing our area rugs, we prefer to move away from "traditional". Rather, we let fantasy speak in sprawling colors and amazing shapes, in flowing lines with varying high and low pile.
Our two most recently delivered rugs are good examples of such flights of fantasy. My current favorite is exceptionally powerful: the shape is very playful, the colors black and white, with a splash of pale green and lilac.

Scorching-hot summer is here for the next few months! But that does not stop people from ordering new rugs and carpets; a unique carpet is a valuable element in home and office design. Planning ahead for the winter months is also a good idea.

The highlight for me this month is that we now have orders from Denmark as well. Denmark is my homeland, the country where I was born and where I spent a wonderful childhood; though by now I often feel more Israeli than Danish. Any way – a Danish architect felt that our carpets are exactly what he is looking for. Our flexibility in design and color give him the creative freedom he needs and the possibility of making each project of his unique.

Visiting an art exhibition is an inspiring occasion that often provides us with a lot of material and thoughts for new design ideas for hand-tufted carpets.  Thanks to our command and use of the tufting technique, we can easily change patterns and style in design.
Earlier this month we visited an exciting Picasso exhibition at the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art in Copenhagen. Looking at his masterpieces certainly gives you something to think about: the artist's way of looking at the world, how he expressed his thoughts… both thought-provoking and inspiring.

As you may have noticed, wall-to-wall carpets have become somewhat less popular in Israel in recent years, compared to only a few years ago.  But when Elsebeth Studio delivers a high pile, thick tufted, pure wool wall-to-wall carpet, you see, think and feel: this is what elegance is all about… the epitome of quality and high class.
This month's wall-to-wall carpets were designed for bedrooms in the King David apartment tower in Tel-Aviv, where the lush, soft carpets combine with the sea view to calm and relax you – exactly what's needed in our stressful world of today.

March 2011
We have just delivered another hand tufted floor carpet for the entrance of the exclusive King David apartment building in Tel-Aviv.
The carpet has the King David logo tufted in the center, and its colors match – as you'd expect – the color scheme of the lobby's interior design.
This new carpet joins the previous one which we delivered eight years ago for the entrance of the King David apartment building.

Shaggy – and shaggy again – is today's preferred carpet style, perfect for all modern living areas.
Our hand-tufted, custom-made pure wool shaggy rugs are unique, tufted in a very thick and long-haired high pile.   Many people like these carpets in solid colors, but from time to time there is a request for a mix of colors. Which colors to use is, of course,  decided  according to the color scheme in the room or area where the carpet is to be placed.
Recently I've been designing shaggy rugs to be tufted in two or three different heights of pile, which gives the carpet a sculptured look. At the moment we are working on just such a carpet, in white and a very pale pink, intended for the master bedroom of the resort home of a French client. The carpet is 4.20 x 2.60 m. in size and beautifully complements the room, contributing an elegant touch that is at the same time inviting – pleasing to the eye and the touch. The same client already has another carpet of mine, of an asymmetric design, in their living room.

We have just delivered a beautiful area rug to Antwerp, Belgium.
The carpet was designed especially for the sitting room of a private home.
We received samples of the existing materials in the room, and with these in mind we decided on the color range to be used in the carpet.
Pictures of the sitting room sent by e-mail gave us an idea about which style and design – modern or classic – would be most appropriate and look best in this specific area.
After a couple of sketches were sent to and discussed with the client in Antwerp, we reached a decision about the final carpet design for the sitting room.
